Welcome to Halo Factions, a halo-based RPG with a competitive twist!
The way things work around here may seem a little confusing at first, but I assure you its easy to understand once you get the hang of it. The idea with this site is somewhat based off Halo Wars (for those that have played it). Players compete with their own armies against each other to control key locations to further build their army and conquer territory.
When you create a character, you in a sense are creating your own branch of military. You can chose between UNSC, Rebels, Covenant, or Heretics to base your squad off of. You will start with a pre-determined amount of units, of course matching the faction you choose, you will also start on a particular planet related to which faction you choose.
With your units that you receive right off the bat, you may make attacks on various buildings and outposts to gain control of them. There is a list of all the buildings in the game and what their benefits are in the Rules and Regulations thread. Controlling these buildings and areas will grant you resources each day you control them. These resources are either Credits, Food, or Metal. These resources are used to buy additional units to add to your army. If a building or territory isn't controlled by a player, then it will be defended by NPC's. The value of that building will determine the strength of the NPC's, so keep in mind that it may be beneficial to target weaker defended buildings but get the resources from that and build from there. In addition to whatever you control, you are automatically given 5 credits and 5 food per day (Of course, you must be active). So even if you are struggling to secure anything, you at least have that going for you and thus at no point fall out of the game.
You may ask, who decides the outcome of battles? Well, in short, administrators and moderators are tasked with calculating results. Luckily, we've developed a program off Microsoft Excel that will calculate the result based on the number of units, type of units, if there are any bonuses for superior strategy, and finally, luck. It is randomized, so that means the result will not always be the same with the same unit values every battle, that is how we simulate luck.
So how do you play effectively? In simple terms, this is a role-playing game, so you roleplay your character/armies actions regardless if you are engaged in combat or not. You may try to create alliances with other players, trick them, or even set the stage for developing conflict or peace. While in a battle, all you simply need to post is your strategy and the units you are engaging with...we'll take it from there.
Like I said earlier, this is complicated, no getting around it. But I think it could be insanely fun if everyone plays by the rules and understands the game. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me or any of the other admins.
So start working on that app and have fun!
